Alaska fishing communities are known for their resiliency, innovation and stewardship of the marine resources that surround them. For many of these communities, fish and shellfish provide the sustenance that supports them, the resources the communities were built around since time immemorial which form the beautiful patchwork quilt, we call coastal Alaska. Climate change is dramatically altering the marine ecosystems fishing communities depend on. Efforts are underway in Gulf of Alaska fishing communities to understand and plan for climate change, to connect fishermen and scientists to support resilient fisheries, to lead climate action by people in boots, not suits, to address marine debris and to diversify and strengthen our communities with mariculture initiatives. Come learn about projects underway to enhance the resilience of our vibrant fishing communities and share ideas.
