The ComFish trade show runs Thursday, March 24 through Saturday, March 26 at the downtown Kodiak Harbor Convention Center from 10 AM-4 PM. Thirty-eight exhibitors from as far away as Rhode Island will be showcasing their goods and services this year.

Alaska Ocean Observing System and Skipper Science


The Alaska Ocean Observing System works collaboratively to identify and fill gaps in ocean information and provide accurate and reliable data, applications, and services for decision making.  It hosts the Alaska Ocean Acidification Network and the Alaska Harmful Algal Bloom Network which engage researchers and stakeholders to understand and address the significant changes affecting our marine environment.

Skipper Science is a partnership that allows fishermen to report data and observations on the water to contribute to monitoring, research, and climate-resilient fisheries. Over 50 fishermen participated in the 2021 pilot program and efforts are expanding in 2022. Organizing partners include the Salmon Habitat Information Program, the Aleut Community of St. Paul, the Aleutians Bering Sea Initiative, the Northern Latitudes Partnerships, and the Alaska Ocean Observing System.

Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) is a public-private partnership between the State of Alaska and the Alaska seafood industry established to foster economic development of a renewable natural resource. ASMI plays a key role in the positioning of Alaska’s seafood industry as a competitive market-driven food production industry.

Kodiak Regional Aquaculture Association


The Kodiak Regional Aquaculture Association (KRAA) is dedicated to salmon fisheries development for the benefit of all common property users — subsistence, sport, and commercial — through research and management efforts, habitat monitoring and protection, stocking, enhancement and rehabilitation projects. KRAA operates two state-owned hatcheries: Pillar Creek Hatchery and Kitoi Bay Hatchery. Combined, these two facilities produce pink, chum, coho, and sockeye salmon. Additionally, rainbow trout and king salmon are incubated and reared at Pillar Creek Hatchery through a cooperative agreement with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

State of Alaska, Division of Economic Development


DED-Investments makes direct loans to resident commercial fishermen under the Commercial Fishing Revolving Loan Fund (CFRLF).

The Division of Economic Development, Investments Section, administers and services loan programs under the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development. These programs were primarily designed to promote economic development through direct state lending in industries and areas of the state that are not adequately serviced by the private sector.  The loan programs include Commercial Fishing, Fisheries Enhancement, Small Business Economic Development, Rural Development Initiative Fund, Microloan, Mariculture, Commercial Charter Fisheries, and Community Quota Entity. Assumptions of existing loans are also available to a number of loan programs.

State of Alaska, Fishermen’s Fund


The Alaska Commercial Fishermen’s Fund
Established in 1951, the Fishermen’s Fund provides for the medical treatment and care of Alaska licensed commercial fishermen who have been injured while fishing in Alaska or in Alaska waters.



SWAMC’s Energy Audit Program conducts outreach to Alaskan commercial fishers and rural small business owners and offers them low-cost (75% discounted) energy audits (subsidized by the USDA REDA grant), as well as free assistance in applying for a U.S. Department of Energy REAP grant. This grant, if awarded, covers 25% of the cost of energy efficiency retrofits. Common retrofits include installing refrigerated seawater systems (RSW) on fishing vessels as well as upgrading LED lights and insulation in both vessels and buildings. The program is focused on southwest Alaska, but since 2020 offers discounted energy audits and grant technical assistance to small businesses statewide.

United Fishermen of Alaska (UFA) is the statewide commercial fishing trade association, representing 37 commercial fishing organizations participating in fisheries throughout the state and the federal fisheries off Alaska’s coast.
